NYT Review and Video of Rhys Chatham's "A Crimson Grail" at the Lincoln Center

Rhys Chatham’s performance of “A Crimson Grail” at the Lincoln Center was a gorgeous, mind-altering experience.  I have to thank Kurt Wolf, Regina Greene, and David Daniell for getting me involved.

Cool performance. Awesome night. Sadly, we got there late (before it started, but too late to grab a seat) and were forced to behind the sound booth. The sound was still good, but not as loud as I’d like. Can’t wait to see the Lizard in NYC! Totally psyched. It’s been way too long. Love the blog. Thanks for all the music and news. – MEB*

I got there late as well (stupid of me to think I could just show up and get a good spot as the performance was starting), saw how packed the place was, and ended up going outside the wall toward the front so I could hear better. Cool, meditative music. That many guitars playing together starts to sound more like a sea of keyboards than guitars, it’s weird! People passing by on the sidewalk kept stopping to listen for a few minutes before moving on. Some of them ended up standing there until the end. It was truly inspiring. And I only found out about it because I read your blog, so thanks!

  3. David, this sounds amazing, did you play along too?
